Palca Canyon near La Paz
Road from Sorata to
Ingenio, where I started the 7-day Mapiri trek
I made an exception and
hired Mariano, a guide from Sorata
It would be hard (but
possible) to do this trek without an experienced guide
On the 2nd day it started
to rain
The guide's simple clothig
turned out to be much better than my expensive waterproofs
Day 3 - crawling through
mud and water under fallen trees
After 2 days of walking
down in constant rain, finally we were dry
The path is overgrown
It's not often we can walk
for 5 days without any sign of civilization
After emarging from the
jungle, we walked on a ridge for 2 days
This thing was sitting on
the tree when we woke up and it looked ready to defend itself
Very happy to get to a river after 6 days (and take a shower)
Butterflies by the river

After 10-hour jeep ride
from Mapiri to Sorata
It was a a hardcore, once
in a lifetime trek. They call it “trail of blood and tears” for a
reason
Starting another trek -
from Sorata to Laguna Glacial

After 2 days I camped out
near Laguna Glacial
Beautiful glacier flowing
down to the lake
Laguna Glacial lies at
5,038m above sea level. I camped there for 3 nights
I know it was crazy, but I
swam to the iceberg 3 times
Camping at 5,500m. It was
one of the coldest nights in my life
I carried a tripod and made use of it
The next day I walked from
the glacier to Sorata, 2,700 meters down
