Road from La Paz to
Rurrenabaque, where my bus had to cross the river
The reason to visit Rurre
are tours in the surrounding jungle
In dry season it's easier
to find animals
Looking for anaconda
Our guides found 2
anacondas and let one of them go
Anaconda can grow to over
5 meters
This is a small one
Bat hiding in a tree trunk
Boat ride along the river
Beni
Monkeys looking for food
One of many, many birds we
saw along the river
Hoatzin - this is the
national bird of Guyana
Caimans are common in
river Beni
We were able to get quite
close to this one
Turtles sunbathing
Animals here are used to
boats and people
After 3 days in the jungle I decided
I missed the mountains
I hired a guide to climb
Condoriri
Condoriri is right in the
middle
We started climbing at 2am
There were dangerous
crevasses in the glacier and we had to be careful
Higher up it was mixed
rocks and ice
The summit of Cabeza de
Condor 5,648 metres
On the way back to the
base camp
The next day we climbed
Pequeño Alpamayo
It was lower and easier
than Condoriri, but I was much more tired
The summit of Pequeño
Alpamayo 5,370 metres
I remember being extremly
tired on the way back
I think I had altitude
sickness because in 3 days I went from the jungle to 5,648m
The same day we were in La
Paz
