I RECORDED BEAVERS WHILE VISITING BIEBRZA IN WINTER watch them on Youtube >>
Frozen Biebrza near
Dolistowo
At sunset I started
walking across the river
Despite temperature down to
-18C, there was no ice in some places
I spent the night camping
in reeds on the left of the photo
Thick ice broke from time
to time, and my heart-rate went up every time it happened
In summer there is a road
here
Sea of ice
Biebrza flooded this
forest and froze when low temperatures arrived
I call it "Birch trees in
glass"
Frozen Biebrza
Insect preserved in ice
Beavers were so hungry
that they didn't mind my presence
One week later there was a
lot of snow. Both beavers froze to death
100 meters away I found
another beaver which coped much better with low temperatures
When I waited for the
beaver, a small otter run towards me
Moose running away after
noticing me
I spent the night in a
viewing tower. I survived -20C and as a reward I could watch moose in
the morning
In summer the view is very
different. Moose don't come as close
Red Marshes in winter

Water levels are at their highest this time of year
This is also the time when
migrating birds arrive in large numbers, some of them very rare
Common Cranes. The best
way to see and listen to the birds is to rent a kayak
Our kayak got stuck so I
had to get out and pull
