BOLIVIA
SALAR DE UYUNI, VOLCANOS AND COLORFUL LAKES (Sept 2007)
photos
From La Paz I went to Santa Cruz de la Sierra where I met with
Alicia, who
flew from Lima to spend her holidays with me in Bolivia. The
next 24 hours we were traveling on torturous roads towards Uyuni.
That's where one of the greatest tours on the continent
starts. It involves driving long distances in a 4x4 as that
corner of the country has virtually no roads. However, it's
totally
worth it, as you can see from the pictures! Some of the most
amazing scenery on this planet can be found there. Blazingly
white salt flats, dotted by cactus-studded islands, followed by
flamingo-filled lakes and weird-shaped rocks. If that's not
enough, there are steaming geysers and colorful lakes, the red one
always my favorite. I just wish we had more time to enjoy it!
