China 2013
Guangzhou, known to many
in the West as Canton
Canton Tower, at 600m it
is the tallest structure in China
Zhuhai, where we crossed
from China to Macau (one of the two Special Administrative Regions)
Famous for it's casinos,
our first impression was not so good
Macau was administered by
Portugal until late 1999, when it was the last remaining European
colony in Asia

Macau is the most densely
populated region in the world (590,000 people living on 30km2)
We expected to see
something different after reading about casinos and tourism
We found it on Taipa
Island. This is Galaxy, the most impressive casino in Macau
Venetian may not stand out
from outside, but you have to go inside to appreciate it
It's a copy of Venice, but
looking brand new and without the smell
You can even take a
gondola ride

Church of St Dominic,
currently closed for renovation

Lisboa hotel, opened in 2008
Next day we went by ferry
to Hong Kong. The view from Victoria Peak is spectacular, even on a
cloudy day
Looking down from the roof
of our hotel
One of the best things to
do in Hong Kong is taking the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour
Giant yellow duck floating
in Hong Kong, attracted a huge crowd

Street in Hong Kong. Until
1997, it was a British colony and remains quite different from the rest
of China
Hong Kong is full of
advertisements, making the city very colorful
There are many elevated
walkways for pedestrians. Finding the way can be tricky the first time
Hong Kong Island. As in
the UK, driving is on the left-hand side
Famous double-decker tram
Evening view from the roof
The view towards Victoria
Harbour was even better
I could have enjoyed this
view from the swimming pool on the roof, but I was too busy taking
photos
On Sundays, thousands of
women from the Philippines (domestic workers) meet in parks
Because it was raining,
women set up temporary cardboard "homes" under roof to meet with
friends
Man Mo Temple (the most
important in Hong Kong)
There is an aviary in Hong
Kong Park, well worth a visit
There are hundreds of
exotic birds (and also mosquitoes)

to say "good bye" to this amazing city
