Hotels in Gorak Shep, the
last settlement before Everest Base Camp
I went to the viewpoint of
Kala Patar below Pumori. Trails are clearly seen
Looking west from Kala
Pattar 5545m
This view of Mount Everest
(in the middle) from Kala Pattar is said to be the best
Top of Mount Everest
8848m. Also known as Chomolungma (Tibetan) and Sagarmāthā (Nepali)
Nuptse 7861m, 2km from
Mount Everest. From Kala
Pattar it appears to be higher than Everest
After spending 2 very cold
hours on Kala Pattar, I was forced down by strong winds
Porter on the way to Gorak
Shep. I had to admire his strength
Day 9 from Lobuche to
Dzonglha. Great view of Taboche (left) and Cholatse (right)
Heading towards Cho La
Pass 5420m, between 2 mountains on the right. It's easier than it looks
Mountains north of
Dzonglha, where I spend the night. They reach "just" 6100m
My hotel in Dzonglha at
the foot of Cholatse. It was very cold before sunrise but worth it
Day 10. Steep walking
towards Cho La Pass
Final section before the
pass is covered by glacier. It's a bit dangerous without crampons
Standing near Cho La Pass
5420m
Ngozumpa Glacier. On the
other side is Gokyo, where I was heading that day
Crossing Ngozumpa Glacier.
My wife surprised me by waiting near Gokyo!
Views after sunset
Gokyo and it's amazing
location. We spent 3 nights there
Dudh Pokhari (3rd) Lake
Walking towards Cho Oyu,
considered to be the easiest 8,000 meter peak to climb
Thonak Tsho (4th Lake).
It's an easy walk from Gokyo
There are 6 sacred lakes
that surround Gokyo. This is the 5th one
View from the 5th Lake.
First on the left is Mt. Everest
