NEPAL + INDIA 2011
INDIA. JODHPUR, UDAIPUR AND DELHI
Jodhpur by night.
Meherangarh fort seen from the roof of our hotel
Meherangarh in the
morning. Jodhpur is called the "blue city" because many houses are
pained blue
Entrance to the fort.
Walls are up to 36m high
When building the fort,
Rao Jodha buried a man called Rajiya Bhambi alive in the foundations
This palanquin looks
heavy! I feel sorry for the guys who had to carry it
One of the most beautiful
rooms in the palace
Inside Meherangarh Fort
Drinking water for
visitors. We prefer to drink bottled water to avoid problems
A stampede occurred in
2008, at the Chamunda Devi temple inside of the fort, in which 249
people were killed
Meherangarh is protected
by more than one wall
Street in Jodhpur. India
is the world's second-most populous country (1.2 billion)
Men playing cards in
Udaipur
Washing in Lake Pichola.
Water pollution is a very serious problem in India
I read about "placid blue
lakes" in Udaipur, but we had poor visibility and the lakes and sky
were grey
City Palace. It's a
complex of several palaces, some of them are hotels
The museum inside is worth
a visit, with armoury, paintings and interesting displays
The City Palace in Udaipur
in the evening. That night we went by train to Delhi
We were impressed by
modern and clean metro in the capital. However, outside is back to
India
The Qutb Minar, which is
73m high and consists of 5 storeys
On the right is Gupta
Pillar, made of 98% iron. It has survived 1600 years virtually without
blemish
Qutb Minar was intended to
be the most glorious tower of victory and prototype of all
minars in India
Red Fort in Delhi
(modelled on Red Fort in Agra) was built by Shah Jahan, who also built
Taj Mahal
Old Delhi street after
dark. It's always full of people
Public toilet. I could
never do it in full view of the people walking past
And I could never eat it
this "restaurant" on the left
Officially unemployment in
India was only 9.4% in 2010
India's economic growth
rate may be impressive, but it seems to benefit only a small group of
people
I've never seen so much
poverty. However, it was safe and we met many nice and friendly people
Hard work in Delhi
There are many modern buses in Delhi. But what's the fun in taking photos of them?
